EuroSTAR 2010 -
"Sharing the Passion"
29 Nov - 02 Dec,
Copenhagen
The Call for Submissions is
now closed. Thank you to all those who submitted.
"Nothing great in the world has ever been accomplished
without passion." [Hebbel, German poet]
For nearly two decades EuroSTAR has been the leading European
software testing conference, attracting delegates and speakers from
around the globe with a common denominator - a passion for
software, testing and improving the state of the
practice.
I'm absolutely delighted to take the role of Programme Chair for
EuroSTAR 2010, this year taking place in Wonderful Copenhagen. I
have the great pleasure of having the following people on my
programme committee: Rikard Edgren from Sweden, Nathalie van Delft
from the Netherlands and Peter Morgan from the UK. We all share
this passionate state of mind and we are looking forward to
receiving your input for the conference.
I clearly remember my first EuroSTAR (in Copenhagen in the year
2000), where I had the chance to witness some great speakers and
meet with my peers from around the world. It wasn't only the
technical insight and practical guidance that got me interested,
but also the enthusiasm and devotion that I experienced from a
vibrant community. I became energised and inspired by this passion
and felt a desire to contribute myself.
The theme for EuroSTAR 2010 is "Sharing the Passion" - passion
for software, passion for testing, passion for excellence, passion
for quality, passion to better our profession, passion for working
together and passion to improve our products, our processes, and
ourselves...
Passion tends to be infectious and is therefore a useful asset
to foster, promote and retain in yourself and in your team. But,
how do we develop such a passion? How can we create an environment
that can incite, harness and preserve this passion? And at what
price?
Our world as developers, testers and managers keeps changing. We
face new technologies, increasing complexity of software
applications and systems and emerging development methodologies,
all calling for changes in the way we work and collaborate. In
recent years we have also felt the consequences of the economic
crisis - we need more than ever, to prove our value.
How can we continue to be passionate about our work and
profession in light of this changing world?
"Rest in reason; move in passion" [Khalil Gibran,
Lebanese Author]
People, Process and Technology are the cornerstones for any IT
project and getting all three aligned is essential. We would like
to have this reflected in the conference programme. The list below
shows examples of topics in these areas, but is certainly not
exhaustive.
When considering the topic you choose and the presentation
summary you submit, remember that this is what the delegate will
use in deciding whether or not to attend your presentation!

We strive to provide pragmatic and realistic information.
Submitting a talk about your passion in a certain topic might be
interesting. However, much more interesting is how you have taken
an idea, concept or technique, you were passionate about, and put
it to use. Real world passions (and frustrations) are preferred to
idealistic talks. "War stories", indicating what went well, what
went badly, and what we could improve upon, are eternally
popular.
EuroSTAR encourages innovation - if it has never been done
before, that is no reason not to try it, and perhaps every reason
to submit your idea.
EuroSTAR 2010 provides a unique opportunity to share your
passion in these areas with your fellow testers. The call for
presentations is now open and I look forward to receiving your
proposals.
Sincerely,
John Fodeh,
Programme Chair, EuroSTAR 2010
