The EuroSTAR Team are delighted to introduce Zeger
van Hese as the Programme Chair for EuroSTAR 2012. Zeger has spoken
at EuroSTAR twice and was the winner of the Best Paper Award in
2007 & 2009. His 2009 paper entitled 'A Lucky Shot at Agile'
was subsequently released as the first ever EuroSTAR
eBook.
"It doesn't happen every day that you are asked to become
programme chair for Europe's biggest testing conference, thus
getting the honour of selecting the programme committee, the
conference theme and assembling the programme. When I see the names
of the previous programme chairs, I realize I've got some big shoes
to fill, but I promise I will do my best to make the 20th
anniversary an event to remember.
"Learning is not compulsory... neither is
survival."
(William Edwards Deming)
"There is no doubt that creativity is the most important human
resource of all. Without creativity, there would be no progress,
and we would be forever repeating the same patterns."
(Edward De Bono)
These two quotes struck a chord when I first read them, and they
continue to do so. If we want to keep up with this rapidly changing
world, we need to evolve as well. After all, taking for granted
what we know already can prevent us from learning. This year I
would like to craft a testing conference that focuses on YOU, first
and foremost. And while we're at it, let's focus on the importance
of learning and creativity in testing.
That is why the Conference Theme for this year is
"Innovate & Renovate: Evolving Testing"
Innovate (ˈi-nə-ˌvāt) to introduce changes and new ideas
Renovate (ˈre-nə-ˌvāt) to repair and improve something, restore to
life
I also have the great pleasure of introducing the programme
committee, my personal dream team:
Shmuel Gershon (Israel), Julian Harty (UK), and James
Lyndsay (UK)

EuroSTAR 2012 provides a unique opportunity to share with fellow
testers: your thoughts, your learning and creativity, your
innovative/renovative ideas. I hope to see you all there."

Biography
Zeger van Hese has a background in Economics and Cultural
Science. He started his professional career in the motion picture
industry but switched to IT in 1999. A year later he got bitten by
the software testing bug (pun intended) and has never been cured
since. He is a test manager at CTG and has a passion for
exploratory testing, testing in agile projects and, above all,
continuous learning from different perspectives. Zeger won the
Eurostar best paper award in 2007 and 2009. He is co-founder of the
Dutch Exploratory Workshop on Testing (DEWT), co-author of CTG's
STBoX Agile flavor, and a regular speaker at conferences
worldwide.
